Good Night, Baby Moon Book Review

About Good Night, Baby Moon

A special bedtime story that follows a family of curious rabbits on their nighttime walks to explain the phases of the moon, with a charming design that includes a light-up LED moon.

When we first meet the family of rabbits in Good Night, Baby Moon, the moon is full and shining bright, but as the days wear on and the nights come and go, the baby rabbits ask their parents why the moon looks different and worry as it disappears and loses its glow. Their parents reassure them that all will be well and that soon it will be back, for this is not farewell.

This delightful story teaches little ones that the moon will always return, and is a fun and exciting way for them to learn. The sweet illustrations and light-up moon make it the perfect gift and will cause little ones to swoon.

Good Night, Baby Moon Book Review

Our Thoughts

A very special bed time story can be found in this book. Children are always full of questions and wonder, this book tackles the topic of what happens when something/someone goes away? Will they come back? These are honest fears in children and can sometimes be difficult for them to voice and understand.

This book uses the moon and its cycle to tackle the topic of leaving and coming back. The little rabbits love basking in the glow of the moon but are puzzled when it disappears. It isn’t until the next moon phase that the moon returns to their delight! It helps them to learn that things sometimes go away but they will always come back.

This book is done in darker tones which suits the story line. It also includes a light up moon on the cover to really help engage your child in the story! The story is easy to read out loud together with your child and flows very well together.

This is beautiful bedtime story perfect for children up to the age of seven.

Sharks and Other Deadly Ocean Creatures #DKWildLife

Our Thoughts

This is the perfect introduction for young children into the world of ocean creatures! It is hard covered and letter sized. It was one of the first books we opened up to start to read when we received them!

The pictures are large – some are even full size – which really grabs your child’s attention and gets them excited to learn. This is so important for young readers as you really want to get them excited about learning and not lost in the words.

The book is divided up into coloured sections based on primeval predators, mud-rooting monsters, devils of the dark and killers between the tides. Fantastic groupings right? Our boys LOVED that! You learned everything from the famous Megalodon to the Vampire Squid to the Blind Shark. Each shark has about a paragraph dedicated to it as well as a quick data file that contains information such as predator power, size, diet and distribution.

This was a great book full of interesting information and facts that is well suited for all ages.

Our Thoughts

We have HUGE shark fans in our home. We never miss Shark Week every year and we love watching any and all documentaries on sharks on television. Sharkpedia is definitely a must have library book addition for all shark lovers in your home.

Sharkpedia reads almost like a cross between an encyclopedia and a scrapbook. The beginning of the book gives an introduction to sharks (history, fears, etc) and then dives right into the background on a large group of sharks. The book wraps up with research on shark attacks and media news.

While a hard covered book on the outside, each page is soft. The book itself is letter paper sized with excellent sized photographs. This book is definitely suited to the older child or a younger child with great reading skills. I loved how the way the book was illustrated and designed. The darker colours (especially the cover) really suits the story line of this book. Our favourite areas of this book was definitely the individual shark pages (I loved the leopard shark) as we learned so much about different types of sharks, a lot of them we had never known about before.

This is a great book for both the shark and animal fans in your home!

Bugs, Bees, and Other Buzzy Creatures #DKWildLife

Our Thoughts

Bugs, Bees and other Buzzy Creatures is the perfect introduction to the world of insects for preschoolers and young school age children.

This hard covered book is bright and bold, perfect for drawing in young readers and keeping their attention. The words are easy to read out loud and well suited for this age group with regards to comprehension. I loved how each section of the book had information about a certain insect and the following pages had a craft to follow-up and reinforce the learning that they just did.

The crafts were fun and easy to do, you will have most of the supplies around your home already. My two favourite crafts are a toss-up between the honey cookies and dragon-fly clips!

Bite-size, country-by-country facts and stats are included at the start of each chapter for additional knowledge, and a place-name index identifies 7,500 locations around the world. Kids will even learn about popular discussion topics such as globalization and the environment in a contemporary introduction section.

Our Thoughts

As we begin purchasing back to school items, it is important to also keep in mind helpful tools and books that you can purchase to help your child before and during school. DK Canada’s Children’s Illustrated World Atlas is a beautiful, fully updated hard cover visual atlas that encourages children to learn more about the world around them.

The book is divided up first by continent and then again in each section by region (for example in Africa, the book examines North, Northeast, Central, West and Southern Africa). Each section has a map that shows mountain regions and key cities and provinces in each region. Each region has an introduction, roughly a couple of paragraphs long, followed by key imagery of the most important cultural, artifacts, festivals, diet, animals and more of each region.

The bright, bold colours of the print and images will help capture your child’s attention as they start their journey around the world (and maybe even pick several countries that they want to visit like ours did!). The back of the book includes a Gazetteer that holds all the key cities that are mentioned throughout the book and on what page it is mentioned on, so if your child wants to find information quick they can head to the back to find out exactly what they need.

The Children’s Illustrated World Atlas is a must have item in your back to school and home library collection! You can purchase a copy of Children’s Illustrated World Atlas on DK Canada.
