The Fabergé Entanglement Book Review

About The Fabergé Entanglement

Sabinne ‘Saber’ Darrieux’s father, the billionaire CEO of Frontenac Global Security has been kidnapped. His ransom is not cash in a numbered offshore account, or a briefcase of Bearer Bonds but something utterly unique, incredibly valuable, and until recently, hidden away from the world.

The kidnapper seems to know Saber very well, and knows that the next day, through her work as an elite translator she will be in the same location as the Object. She must steal the Object and deliver it to the kidnapper to ransom her father.

Adrian Steele, a British Intelligence agent has just come off of two harrowing missions. Upon returning to London for a well-earned rest, he learns that his friend and fellow agent, has been murdered in Moscow, but not before he made use of a unique Object as a mobile ‘drop site’ for the valuable intelligence he was carrying.

The drop site is traveling from Moscow to England. Steele insists on completing the mission to honor the death of his friend, Gerry Cornell.

At an ultra-chic quasi-diplomatic gathering in a mansion in Windsor, England, Saber and Steele meet and find themselves faced with a powerful, undeniable attraction. But at the moment, this compelling attraction is very inconvenient.

In reality they are at the mansion to check out the security arrangements — for their own reasons — to steal the Object, a Fabergé egg worth thirty million dollars. But who will get to the egg first?

Fabergé eggs are very famous for their unique surprises. Saber and Steele are about to be very surprised, indeed.

And when Saber clashes with Steele; more than sparks will explode!

My Thoughts

The Faberge Entanglement is an exciting, suspenseful, sexy novel from start to finish. We have two very strong, smart, sassy and sexy main characters, Saber and Steele. I loved them both equally, Saber especially. It isn’t too often that you find a female main character who is so powerful, smart and an incredible fighter like her. She holds her own throughout this story and I really enjoyed the power struggle between her and Steele.

The plot line itself was pretty exciting and changes as we learn more information about Saber’s personal and family history. The story evolved in an amazing but not expected manner that kept me guessing right to the very end! I did not expect the ending of the book at all but it suited the characters and the story perfectly.

This novel is well written with great attention to character development and the plot. Each chapter was quite short which was different for me and alternated between the two main characters. I liked how this added to the suspense and urgency of the novel and solving the mystery of who is behind the kidnapping. This was a great read from start to finish!

Bringing Maggie Home Book Review

About Bringing Maggie Home

Hazel DeFord is a woman haunted by her past. While berry picking in a blackberry thicket in 1943, ten-year old Hazel momentarily turns her back on her three-year old sister Maggie and the young girl disappears.

Almost seventy years later, the mystery remains unsolved and the secret guilt Hazel carries has alienated her from her daughter Diane, who can’t understand her mother’s overprotectiveness and near paranoia. While Diane resents her mother’s inexplicable eccentricities, her daughter Meghan—a cold case agent—cherishes her grandmother’s lavish attention and affection.

When a traffic accident forces Meghan to take a six-week leave-of-absence to recover, all three generations of DeFord women find themselves unexpectedly under the same roof. Meghan knows she will have to act as a mediator between the two headstrong and contentious women. But when they uncover Hazel’s painful secret, will Meghan also be able to use her investigative prowess to solve the family mystery and help both women recover all that’s been lost?

My Thoughts

Bringing Maggie Home is a brilliant novel following the lives of three generations of women in the same family. Each of them has been impacted by Hazel’s past and the disappearance of her younger sister Maggie although her daughter Diane and granddaughter Meghan do not know about Hazel’s past and the loss of her sister.

When Hazel’s sister disappears, her world is shattered. It tears apart her parents and she carries a guilt that no child should bear. As Diane and Meghan later learn, the impact on the remaining years of her childhood and teen can be greatly seen in pictures and Hazel’s refusal to talk about what happened. Maggie’s disappearance causes Hazel to later on in life hold on too close to Diane, to the point where Diane felt smothered and anger towards her Mother.

When Meghan decides to investigate more into Maggie’s disappearance, the family dynamics begin to change. Hazel becomes more open and Diane becomes more understanding. It is amazing the amount of damage that one secret can cause! Hazel’s refusal to talk about her sister caused a great rift between her daughter and herself. If she had chosen to speak to Diane about it in the beginning, Diane may have appreciated more why her Mother was so protective and overbearing.

Bringing Maggie Home is a well written novel showcasing forgiveness, compassion, hope and love. It shows us that we need to be honest with those we love and to learn to show compassion and forgive each other for our  mistakes. I laughed and cried along with Hazel, Diane and Meghan always keeping my fingers and toes crossed for the happy ending that this family deserves. This is a definite must read novel!

Sharks and Other Deadly Ocean Creatures #DKWildLife

Our Thoughts

This is the perfect introduction for young children into the world of ocean creatures! It is hard covered and letter sized. It was one of the first books we opened up to start to read when we received them!

The pictures are large – some are even full size – which really grabs your child’s attention and gets them excited to learn. This is so important for young readers as you really want to get them excited about learning and not lost in the words.

The book is divided up into coloured sections based on primeval predators, mud-rooting monsters, devils of the dark and killers between the tides. Fantastic groupings right? Our boys LOVED that! You learned everything from the famous Megalodon to the Vampire Squid to the Blind Shark. Each shark has about a paragraph dedicated to it as well as a quick data file that contains information such as predator power, size, diet and distribution.

This was a great book full of interesting information and facts that is well suited for all ages.

Our Thoughts

We have HUGE shark fans in our home. We never miss Shark Week every year and we love watching any and all documentaries on sharks on television. Sharkpedia is definitely a must have library book addition for all shark lovers in your home.

Sharkpedia reads almost like a cross between an encyclopedia and a scrapbook. The beginning of the book gives an introduction to sharks (history, fears, etc) and then dives right into the background on a large group of sharks. The book wraps up with research on shark attacks and media news.

While a hard covered book on the outside, each page is soft. The book itself is letter paper sized with excellent sized photographs. This book is definitely suited to the older child or a younger child with great reading skills. I loved how the way the book was illustrated and designed. The darker colours (especially the cover) really suits the story line of this book. Our favourite areas of this book was definitely the individual shark pages (I loved the leopard shark) as we learned so much about different types of sharks, a lot of them we had never known about before.

This is a great book for both the shark and animal fans in your home!

Our Thoughts

Bugs, Bees and other Buzzy Creatures is the perfect introduction to the world of insects for preschoolers and young school age children.

This hard covered book is bright and bold, perfect for drawing in young readers and keeping their attention. The words are easy to read out loud and well suited for this age group with regards to comprehension. I loved how each section of the book had information about a certain insect and the following pages had a craft to follow-up and reinforce the learning that they just did.

The crafts were fun and easy to do, you will have most of the supplies around your home already. My two favourite crafts are a toss-up between the honey cookies and dragon-fly clips!
