Protecting Your Dental Health With Prevention: Intellident Toothbrush Shield

Protecting Your Dental Health with Intellident Toothbrush Shield

I think it is pretty safe for me to say that dental health is one of the most important health concerns for most adults and their children. We want our teeth and gums to be healthy so we visit the dentist every six to twelve months, we brush our teeth twice daily and floss. All of this is done so our teeth remain strong, gums are healthy all of which gives us a healthy and confident smile.

But what about the unseen germs and bacteria that can be lying in wait in your bathroom? I always thought I had a clean bathroom and our toothbrushes were safe until I read on the IntelliDent site that, “a flushing toilet releases off fine mist of airborne droplets that can settle in a six-foot radius”. Yeah gross.

The traditional plastic covers are a breeding ground for bacteria to grow, which I am sure you have seen when water and tooth paste build up on them. Sharing toothbrush holders can pass germs from one toothbrush to the next.

Protecting Your Dental Health with Intellident Toothbrush Shield

This is where the IntelliDent toothbrush shield comes in. The Intellident Toothbrush Shield is made up of a breathable, quick drying material that acts like a barrier for your toothbrush protecting it from airborne bacteria and germs. The toothbrush shields have been laboratory tested to be 99.9% effective as a barrier to airborne germs and bacteria.

The shields come in packages of ten and each shield is individually wrapped to ensure freshness and no cross contamination. Intellident recommends replacing the shields every seven days to ensure maximum protection.

The shields were honestly the easiest thing to open, very similar to band aids and our toothbrushes slid right into the pockets no problem. It fit all of our toothbrushes (from the youngest to eldest). With their sleek and white design they look more than okay on our toothbrush sitting in a toothbrush holder. It has even sparked a few conversations with family about dental health and toothbrush bacteria (and maybe even a few debates) which is a great thing. The best part is the peace of mind that no bacteria or germs will unintentionally find it’s way onto our toothbrushes which could make us sick.

Week Six of My Healthy Living Challenge

Week Six: Healthy Living

Wow what a week!

This was an awesome week for me goal wise, as I managed to complete a lot of my goals. Week six also leads up to my walk for Sick Kids! I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am for this (and if you have not yet checked out my post on my walk, please do so and consider even donating to my team). This week I plan to continue to work on my endurance and strength training leading up to my walk. I have had a couple of co-workers notice my weight loss which is great (even if the numbers aren’t moving, I can definitely feel a difference in  my clothes and shape). This has made keeping up with my fitness routine that much easier.

Here is how I did last week:

  • 1 to 2 pound weight loss.
  • Weight training four times.
  • Yoga twice this week.
  • Daily squat, lunge, push up and crunch challenge.
  • 11,000 steps a day.
  • Two 3km walks.
  • One 4km walk.

Can I tell you how proud I am of myself? 🙂

Here are my goals for week six:

  • Weight training four times this week.
  • Yoga twice this week.
  • Daily stretching (the stretching is geared towards my back that was introduced to me for physio)
  • 11,000 steps a day – can I beat last week?!
  • Two 3km walk
  • The Great Camp Adventure Walk

I am looking forward to week six, especially with my upcoming walk for Sick Kids. Come back next week to see how week six went.

One Week To Go: The Great Camp Adventure Walk #WalkForSickKids

Great Camp Adventure Walk

The past few weeks have flown by for me after I announced that I will be taking part in The Canaccord Genuity Great Camp Adventure Walk. This was important to me in so many ways. Sick Kids is an incredible hospital that does so much for the children and families that are treated there. They open their doors, hearts and give their all to their patients. I was privileged as a high school student to participate in a research study at Sick Kids. It was this study that sparked my love of medicine and the hope it gives families.

Great Camp Adventure Walk

What is The Great Camp Adventure Walk?

The Great Camp Adventure Walk is a challenge by choice event held in Toronto on September 26th. Participants can challenge themselves to a 5km, 10km, 15km or even a 20km walk. It is an event that is open to all: young children, families and even pets! The day is full of fun, camp like activities and more.

Participants can register on the Walk for Sick Kids website. If you would like to donate to my team, you can do so at our team page, Live, Dream, Hope. Our goal is to raise $1,000 and we are a quarter of the way there.

All donations raised go to The Possibilities Fund at Sick Kids Foundation. The goal this year is to raise over $2 million!

You can also enter to win a $100 donation to a team of your choosing and a $100 VISA gift card for yourself. A definite win-win!

Week Five: Still Holding On

Week Six: Healthy Living

We are officially in the second week of school and normal routines are almost back (thank goodness!). My regular fitness routine is slowly returning to normal, with help from my calendar on the fridge – desperate times call for desperate measures! I have started to see a physiotherapist to help with my stretching which has helped a lot with some of the pain I have been experiencing. I have always had lower back pain and this has really helped to improve my range of motion and compression like feeling I have been having. Most of the pain is due to my poor posture and abdominal weight so my fitness goals couldn’t have come at a better time!

So how did I do?

Here is week four:

  • 1-2 pound weight loss.  Although to be fair this was the weight I gained back from my Dad’s delicious cooking!
  • Weight training five times this week.
  • Yoga three times this week.
  • Daily squat, lunge, push up and crunch challenge.
  • 11,000 steps a day. Every day but Friday! I was so close this time!
  • Two 3km walks.
  • One 4km walk  And I chose the hottest day to do so, I was looking lovely in my sweaty clothes.

Week Five Goals:

  • 1 to 2 pound weight loss.
  • Weight training four times.
  • Yoga twice this week.
  • Daily squat, lunge, push up and crunch challenge.
  • 11,000 steps a day.
  • Two 3km walks.
  • One 4km walk.

Week five marks one week closer to my walk for Sick Kids coming up on September 26th. For more information on my walk (or if you would like to donate to this great cause) please check out my post on The Great Camp Adventure Walk.

Here is to good things in week five! Have a great week and I will see you here next week.
