Learn Online with DK Find Out! #DKCanada #giveaway

Learning is a continual process that as parents we are blessed to be a part of.

It can be extremely hard sometimes to find the right teaching format for your child especially with the variety of ways children learn (some are visual, some need to have it explained and so on). I know both of my children are independent learners who like and respond better to large visual components.

DK Canada has launched a brand new website, DK Find Out! which can be used as a fun learning resource and is aimed at children, educators and their parents.

Nearly two years in the making, DK Find Out is an educational website that gathers together DK Canada’s collection of images and research to create a safe and educational online tool. All those gorgeous images and wealth of knowledge that we have come to love from DK Canada comes to life in an online format.

One of the best features of the DK Find Out website? It is FREE! Yes – free! There are not too many educational resources out there for parents that are free.

The DK Find Out website is accessible on all devices, including iPad, phones, laptops and computers. This makes it that much easier to learn from basically anywhere! Which for us usually includes car rides to soccer practices or the much hated long road trips to soccer games. Why not whip out the iPad and take advantage of this time by accessing the website and learning instead of the usual video games?.

Some of the educational areas include dinosaurs, animals, earth, nature, history, math and many more. The illustrations are gorgeous! Large, bold and bright they draw you right into the site immediately. Children will find it easy to navigate and find their favourite areas. Parents can also easily read along with their child if they are too young to navigate the site by themselves.

Winnie: The True Story of the Bear Who Inspired Winnie the Pooh #giveaway

As a child, I grew up with the stories of Winnie the Pooh and his friendly gang. We had the collection of stuffed animals and the bedtime stories to go along with it. My love of Winnie the Pooh only grew stronger when I had my own children. I wanted them to love Winnie the Pooh just as much as I do!

It wasn’t until I was in my teens that I realized that the story I love so much was actually based on a true story! This true story comes to life in the new book, Winnie: The True Story of the Bear Who Inspired Winnie the Pooh set to release on January 20th, 2015.

Winnie: The True Story of the Bear Who Inspired Winnie the Pooh tells the story of Harry Coleburn, a veterinarian and a solder in training for World War I. On his way to training he finds a baby bear for sale at the train station and he knew within his heart that he had to care for the bear. Harry names the bear Winnie, short for his company’s home town of Winnipeg and brings Winnie with him to the training camp in England. She quickly becomes attached to Harry and follows him everywhere and soon becomes the regiment’s much-loved mascot. All too soon, Harry has to ship off to the battlegrounds in France and must find a loving home for Winnie. He chooses the London Zoo. While Winnie is there a very special little boy named Christopher Robin comes along and plays with Winnie.

This story is an incredibly heart warming tale that is the perfect story to share with your children. A tale of love, compassion and friendship that is timeless. The illustrations are wonderful and beautifully created to showcase the friendship and love that forms.

The book also includes original photographs of Harry, Winnie and Christopher Robin! This was a perfect idea to really connect the story to it’s past. Our kids loved looking at the photographs.

Guess How Much I Love You #Giveaway

Guess How Much I Love You, the much-loved story for all ages, has now come to life in DVD format! Guess How Much I Love You, with a release date of January 5th in the US and Canada, has a total of seven heart warming episodes full of love, friendship and the ever important love between father and son. In each of these episodes, Little Nutbrown Hare and Father Big Nutbrown Hare remind us that there is no greater love than that of the love between a parent and their child.

Guess How Much I Love You is full of incredibly sweet songs with catchy tunes (I have been singing the ‘Guess how much I love you’ tune for the last week and it has been our new catch phrase at home!) and loveable animal characters with excellent illustrations. The animation brings back so many memories of my own favourite childhood characters! As a family we were able to join Little Nutbrown Hare on his adventures as he meets new friends, learns new songs and dances all to show Big Nutbrown Hare how much he loves him. Each episode is just over ten minutes long with a total running time of eighty minutes. This makes it perfect for short viewing times for the younger crowd with the ability to play the DVD for longer for the older child.

The story is based on the love between a parent and a child and how strong that bond is. It was great to be able to cherish this with our children and to watch their faces as they watched the episodes.
