About My Brown-Eyed Earl

Miss Margaret Lacey is smart and beautiful but she is also penniless and at the ripe old age of twenty-three, society has declared her a spinster! For her part, Meg is less concerned with her empty dance card than with her empty ban account. She resolves to make her own way as a governess but discovers her new employer is the Earl of Castleton – the handsome young man she rejected one fateful day, eight years ago.

William Ryder, the Earl of Castleton, has never forgotten Meg – the elusive girl next door who claimed she would rather shave her head than marry him. Now she is the governess to his wards but Will plans to teach her a few lessons of his own! As stolen kisses lead to passionate nights, Will and Meg just might find true love where they least expect it.

My Thoughts

I have a secret obsession with time period romances. I absolutely LOVE them and will spend hours devouring novel after novel, which drives my husband nuts!

This historical romance was a perfect, sweet and at times comical romance. Meg is our young female lead who is compassionate, caring and over protective of her younger sisters. She has been dealt a harsh blow in life after the death of her parents. And as difficult as it is to believe, she has been declared a spinster at twenty three by English society. She makes the brave decision to enter the working world (which was not expected of young girls of her status) as a governess but little did she know that she would end up at the home of the young man she very unkindly rejected many years before. I am sure you can imagine the shock, horror and fears she had upon this realization!

This is when the story really takes off as we follow their story, what led Meg to refuse the handsome William and watch him stumble through his feelings for her. What first started off as a means to teach her a few lessons becomes a struggle with his emotions for her. You witness his own insecurities and fears, you watch as he gains understanding and grows as a person. Their relationship builds in a very unique manner and is centered around their personal attachment to two adorable but troublesome young girls!

My Brown Eyed Early is a sweet, funny romance novel that you will enjoy from start to finish. A great addition to my historical romance collection!

About the Author

Anna Bennett started swiping romances from her Mom’s bookshelf as a teenager and decided that books with balls, dukes and gowns were the best. So, when she had the chance to spend a semester in Long she packed her bags – and promptly fell in love with the city, its history and its pubs. She dreamed of writing romance but somehow ended up a software analyst instead.

Fortunately, a few years and a few careers later, Anna found her way back to writing the stories she loved and won the Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart. She lives in Maryland with her husband and three children, who try valiantly not to roll their eyes whenever she quotes Jane Austen. Other weaknesses include reality TV, cute shoes and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.
