Small but Mighty: The MYNT ES Tracker

Small but Mighty: The MYNT ES Tracker

Life can feel like a whirlwind at times. We are constantly on the go, pressured to do more and more at home, work and in our precious moments of free time. Our minds are constantly full of to do lists and thinking about the next item or place to go that it can be easy to misplace or lose items.

Hands up if you have ever misplaced something in the house, car or office? Do you remember the sheer frustration and hopelessness that comes with that? I know that I do.

When I have too much on my mind and I lose something as simple as my keys in the house, it can bring me to tears. But what if you could prevent the emotional upheaval from ever happening?

Small but Mighty: MYNT ES Tracker

The MYNT ES tracker ensures that you will never have these moments again. Known as the “compass for finding things”, this small but powerful tracker easily attaches to any item that you want to keep safe and tracks its whereabouts at all times (from keys to a laptop to even your car’s parking spot).

The tracker is about the size of a typical loyalty reward card that attaches to your keys and not much heavier making it easy to attach to any item and carry around with you anywhere. We loved the sleek design of this tracker as it wasn’t obvious, heavy or distracts from the item it is on. The tracker has the MYNT logo on it, which we thought made it look really sharp – almost like Superman’s cape.

Small but Mighty: The MYNT ES Tracker

Key Features of the MYNT ES Tracker:

  • higher ring volume than previous models (80dB)
  • battery life of up to 12 months and uses a replaceable battery
  • connects to MYNT app (which is free to download and use)
  • small and sleek design
  • remote controller and camera shutter features
  • compatible with iOS 8.0 and above, iPhone 4S, 5C, 5, 5S, 6, 6 PLUS and iPod touch 5, iPad mini and newer devices. Android 4.4.4 with Bluetooth 4.0 and later.

Small but Mighty: The MYNT ES Tracker

One of the best features (besides its sleek design) is the connection to the MYNT app on your cell phone. The set up is incredibly simple and connects within seconds. This app allows you the power to connect with your personal items that you have attached the tracker to at any time with the push of a button on your phone. It also works both ways if you lose your phone – use the tracker to find your phone, a win -win situation.

Our Thoughts

March is one of those funny months where it is wet, cold and dreary outside most of the month. Most days are spent inside  because of the wet weather. While this is great for our gardens, for parents this can be a nightmare! We need to be armed with loads of activities and crafts to keep our children busy and occupied.

One great solution? Get slimey with The Slime Book!

Kids love slime and I think if parents got over the mess it can make and be honest, we love it too. The feeling of the slime as it passes over your hands (sometimes it just grosses me out) and the feeling of wanting to get someone with your slime (watch out kids) can be the best feelings ever! How can you not fall in love with the gooey greatness of slime?

Make March Gooey with The Slime Book #DKMakerMarch

The Slime Book has an amazing selection of slime recipes using everyday items in your home (baking soda, glue, etc). The recipes were very easy to follow and had large, bold pictures to accompany them. Each slime recipe was easy for us to do together and for the kids to mix up on their own. They all had a rating from easy to hard which helped us to identify which ones would be easier for them to complete on their own and which ones would need a bit more supervision. They had some really unique ideas on how to make your slime pop (sparkles, pom poms, etc.) which I have never seen before or would have thought possible. The mess was minimal and well worth the joy on their faces!

With enough recipes to keep both your child and you occupied throughout the whole month, The Slime Book is a definite must have item this March. You can purchase your own copy of The Slime Book on DK Canada.

What do you plan on making this March?

Something of Substance Book Review

About Something of Substance

Seventeen-year-old Grace Michaels is determined to be thin, even if she dies trying.

Part of the in-crowd at Providence High, she is steps away from being asked out by the most desired guy at school, winning a prom queen nomination, and her parents’ approval. If she can just get skinny enough, be pretty enough, and popular enough.

But Grace is thin on the outside and fat on the inside. No amount of weight-loss ever seems enough. Convinced the melting pounds will solve her problems, every pound lost brings her closer to her goals. But flesh and bone can only hide the weight of her secret for so long.

My Thoughts

This was an extremely powerful and touching book for me. I remember still to this day how difficult high school was and how I struggled with body image and eating disorders. I remember skipping meals and the sense of control it gave me as other areas of my life were spiraling out of my control. I remember how as a teenager, your body and its size were discussed every day – look at her hips, her bum and how big her arms are and so on. Looking back, I can see where my unhealthy relationship with food and body image began and I am sure so can many young women and adults.

This book focuses on Grace who once was just slightly overweight but as many women can attest to, this is unacceptable by society. She does everything and anything she can to lose the weight which even involves going to “fat camp” (how I detest that name!). When she finally loses the weight, she becomes part of the in crowd and has the attention she’s always wanted from her peers but not from her family. Like so many of us have realized, when we achieve that goal it can sometimes not be enough, for example – I have lost forty pounds so therefore I can lose another ten.

Grace’s life becomes out of control (her relationship with her parents, her sister and her social life) and the only way she can control any aspect of it is through starving herself.  As she begins to starve herself more and more, she could only hide her behaviour for so long before a terrible accident sheds light on the severity of her mental and physical health and her relationships with her family members and friends. It is then that everyone must face the truth about the impact their verbal and nonverbal actions had on Grace and her mental and physical health.

This is a very powerful novel that is a must read for all young girls and even adults. It hits on so many emotions and perceptions that we deal with on a daily basis. It is raw and honest with how Grace feels and how she reacts in the only way she knows how to. It addresses feelings of failure, social acceptance and social hierarchy in school, relationships and communication. As women, many of us may find parts of our younger selves in Grace and I am sure many young adults will see aspects of their day-to-day in how Grace feels and reacts. It brings an extremely important topic that many would like to ignore into the forefront. I can honestly say that this is a book that I wish I had been able to read in my teens to help save myself from years of poor self image and unhealthy relationship with food.

One Eagle Soaring Book Review

About One Eagle Soaring A First West Coast Book

Following on the success of their bestselling board book Hello Humpback!, award-winning authors Roy Henry Vickers and Robert Budd are back with One Eagle Soaring, the second edition in their exciting new series, First West Coast Books.

One Eagle Soaring is a “first numbers” book and explores counting and numbers with the help of West Coast animals—from a single eagle aloft, to a pair of swimming whales, as well as leaping frogs, honey-hungry bears and a group of ten dozing marmots.

This book combines Roy Henry Vickers’ vivid illustrations, a glossy tactile finish and a simple yet catchy text. The sturdy board book introduces babies and toddlers to the spectacular scenery and wildlife of British Columbia.

My Thoughts

This is an absolutely stunning hard cover book geared towards your toddler but that even a preschool aged child will love.

This beautiful book features ten West Coast animals set in a beautiful back drop. Each number and animal spans two pages of this book that is roughly the size of your hand in a square shape. The animals are bold and bright, featured in either black or colour. The animals are lightly textured in designs that are unique to the West Coast (we loved running our hands over the patterns). The background imagery is done in a complementary colour scheme that really helps the images pop out of the page (I loved the sea-lion page with bold blues and yellows!).

The wording itself is easy to read and geared well to this age group. It also gave us an opportunity to make up a bit of the story, for example when it was written two moose wander by – we asked where were they going, what did they see? It was easy to get silly or serious and even ask further questions to learn more about these animals.

One Eagle Soaring is an incredible and beautiful book featuring the beauty of the West Coast. I loved that it celebrates the breathtaking nature of the West Coast – it is always refreshing to find a book that features Canadian themes! It will make for a wonderful baby shower or first birthday gift and an excellent addition to your young child’s home library.

When Calls the Heart Review and Giveaway

Shout! Factory

The love story blooming in Hope Valley continues with the television special, When Calls the Heart, available on DVD from Shout! Factory on March 20th, 2018.

When Calls the Heart Review and Giveaway

About When Calls the Heart

From celebrated author Janette Oke (The Love Comes Softly series) comes a rigorous and romantic adventure as epic as the wide frontier. Erin Krakow (Army Wives), Daniel Lissing (Eye Candy), Jack Wagner (Melrose Place) and Lori Loughlin (Full House, 90210) star in When Calls The Heart, a beautiful story filled with “many of the values we all hold precious such as love, family, friendship, community, faith and caring about one another” (Military Press).

The citizens of Hope Valley find the true meaning of the holiday season with a Wishing Tree that helps everyone’s dreams come true. As Abigail, Bill, and the rest of Hope Valley work together to create a special Christmas parade to warm the town’s collective hearts and bring everyone closer together, Elizabeth longs only for the return of her beloved Jack.

Executive produced by Michael Landon Jr., When Calls the Heart currently airs on The Hallmark Channel.

Our Thoughts

This was a wonderful, wholesome movie that I couldn’t help but fall in love with (not to mention our youngest – who was so excited to see “Aunt Becky” in this film). After watching it, I had to find out a little bit more about the history of Hope Valley and Elizabeth. The television series was based on the books by Janette Oke’s Canadian West series. In the television series, the wealthy Elizabeth heads off to the Canadian Frontier to teach children in a small mining town in Alberta. She must learn the ways of small country living in order to fit in and survive.

This movie was Christmas themed based on the themes of hope, love and faith. The town sets up a Wishing Tree where everyone can hang up an ornament with their Christmas wish. Residents were then encouraged to take one back in turn to help someones wish come true. Also going on is the return of a past resident who is doing penance for his crimes, Elizabeth’s wish for Jack to return and stay with her and the possible loss of a pregnancy in one of the town members.

There were a lot of great themes in this heart warming story. We learn a lot about hope, faith and love. We are reminded to believe in others and always see the good in their hearts, sometimes we have to move past their past actions in order to see the good but it will definitely be worth it. We are faced with faith that we will make it through every possibly negative experience okay and that each experience is meant to teach and guide us. This is a movie that all members of the family can enjoy all year round, even with the Christmas theme.
