Summer Time Family Fun in the Sun #KinderMom

We are halfway through the summer (hard to believe right?!) and our family has been taking full advantage of this warm weather from swimming, to movies, to the Pan Am Games – Ontario has so much to offer for family fun and Kinder treats have been with us each time.

But sometimes, we just need to unwind and have some downtime to help us focus as a family. There are so many fun (and free) things you can do in your own community. Here are my top places and activities to do in the summer for free:

Splash Pads: these provide hours of endless fun for children and help to cool them down on hot days.
Family Movie Nights: we like to set up blankets and pillows in front of the television (our ‘campout’) and put on an oldie but goodie movie to enjoy at night. Throw some popcorn and Kinder eggs and it is a win win!
Hiking: while the weather has been far too hot to actively be hiking the trails, find a hiking trail in your community and get out there. Supply your children with a mission to complete (finding a certain amount of birds,etc..) and have fun. You can combine exercise and education in this one.
Picnics at the park: I am a huge fan of picnics. You don’t even have to go far just pack up a small bag of food and get outdoors. You can even eat in the front yard and the kids will have so much fun with the change-up of routine.
The library: there are so many activities provided at the library over the summer from movie days, to bingo and animal days. Take advantage of these free activities as your children will learn, have fun and meet new friends.
Fishing: while I am not a huge fan of removing the fish or attaching a worm (seriously gross), my kids can spend hours at the lake fishing!

Where ever you go this summer, make sure to pack lots of water (a must) and a special little Kinder egg treat for your kids!

Create Your Own Minion Friends with Kinder Canada

Bee Do! Bee Do! Bee Do!

The famous minions are back and this time you can find them in Kinder chocolates!! Po ka?? (English translation from the Banana Language: What??).

Yes, you heard that right – in your favourite Kinder chocolates. Throughout this month, you can find these adorable little minions in store, in specially marked packages.

I was on the hunt for these packages for the last three weeks and I finally scored some at Walmart this past weekend. My boys and I decided to have a little bit of fun with our new minions by creating a league of minions out of all the spare Kinder capsules we keep in the home (they are the perfect storage for change!).

For this craft you will need:

Kinder capsules
blue and purple paint
black permanent marker
blue circular stickers

Directions:

Paint the bottom half of the capsules blue and leave upside down to dry. The ‘evil’ minions you will have to paint half of the capsule purple.

Once they are dry, use the permanent marker to add in the eyes, goggles and hair.

Add the stickers to the centre of their pants. We chose one of the minions to hold a heart and another to wear a flower in his hair (hence the sad face!).

And voila! A league of your own personal minions!

Our son set them up with his Minion toys in the living room and created his own ‘battle’ scenes. We had so much fun playing around with them.

Who Is Egg-cited for Easter – This Kinder Mom Is! #KinderSmiles #KinderMom

The sun is finally shining and the snow has melted (in my part of Canada because I know my friends in the East are still having quite a bit of snow falling!) and Spring has finally come. We have been busy preparing our hearts and home for Easter and our children are excited for all the fun that Easter brings – time with family and all of the Easter egg hunts!

I have been busy preparing the children’s baskets this week, preparing crafts for the boys and working on our Lenten promises. While it is usually a busy time in our family it is also the most rewarding.

Kinder eggs have always been a family tradition in our home. Our children look forward to finding them in their Easter baskets on Easter morning – not to mention how much their Mom loves those mini eggs!!

This year Kinder Canada is celebrating Easter in a big way on Facebook by unwrapping your very own Kinder egg online!

So how does this work you may ask?

Between March 16 and March 31st head over to the Kinder Canada Facebook page and open the new Kinder Easter tab at the top of the page. Tap the image with your mouse to unwrap the egg. The Kinder egg will reveal either an instant prize or a message to try again. Every time you unwrap a Kinder egg you are automatically entered in to a grand prize draw. Awesome, right? Make sure you get those entries in soon because this unique giveaway will end soon.

#KinderSmiles Booth at the Toronto Eaton Centre – Come Unwrap a Smile!

This past weekend we had the opportunity to join our fellow #KinderMoms and #KinderDads at the Toronto Eaton Centre for the unveiling of the #KinderSmiles booth!

Kinder Canada is celebrating their 40th Anniversary (yup forty years of delicious chocolate surprises!). To start off this incredible year the #KinderSmiles Booth was set up at the Eaton Centre. Families, couples and chocolate lovers are invited to head down to the Eaton Centre to capture their best #KinderSmiles in the photo booth and receive a special Kinder surprise!

Once you take your photo and receive your special surprise from the booth the children can sit, open and play with their Kinder toy. The Kinder staff were incredible playing with the children, helping put together the toys and they even had a few extra toys lined up in case there were a few tears over a toy (great planning!).

Once our photos were taken we took a short walk up the street to the Yonge and Dundas square (YAY for open Streets Toronto – so neat to walk on the always busy Yonge Street!). If you haven’t been to the square before it is surrounded by large screens on the buildings. Kinder was fantastic and displayed all of the #KinderSmiles photos on these screens! The boys were yelling every time they saw our pictures come up (famous!).

The #KinderSmiles booth is only open until August 28th so make sure to head in soon to capture those moments. If you are not in the Toronto area you can head over to their Facebook page and use their online Smile Booth to create your own special #KinderSmiles to share with your family.
