Jewelled Easter Egg Craft

We wanted to try something a bit different this year with our Easter eggs. My super creative co-worker (she always amazes me with the awesome ideas she comes up with!) had this great idea to glitter and jewel her Easter eggs!

I thought this was such an awesome (and frugal idea!). The whole craft cost us under four dollars! I went to the dollar store and purchased a package of jewel stickers for two dollars – I chose black and white but they had such a great variety of different colours.

We boiled our eggs like normal, let them cool and then patted them dry. We then stuck the stickers on and they stuck perfectly (I was a bit worried that they would fall off!) – they even survived being thrown across the floor when my two year wanted to use the eggs as a ball!!

My boys enjoyed the craft but really missed dipping their eggs in dye. Next year we decided we would dip the eggs first in dye and when they were dry we would put the jewels on. What crafts did you try out this year with your family?

ABC Friday Photo Share…L is for LEGO King!

It’s that time again!!

ABC Friday Photo Share at Mom vs the Boys and Maple Leaf Mommy!

This week L is for LEGO King in our home!

Our eldest loves his Lego (youngest is on his way there but he mainly plays with the characters). He plays with it all the time and is always making up new bases, houses, battleships, helicopters, monsters – his list is endless!
I love how it gives him hours of creative play. He never makes the same item over again and his ideas are so imaginative!

Slow Cooker Shredded Beef

I just received my Whats Cooking magazine from Kraft Canada and was flipping through it and found this awesome recipe for Slow Cooker Italian Shredded Beef Sandwich! (check out their original recipe and so many more!).
I have had shredded pork and chicken before but never thought I could do the same with beef! I tore out the recipe to use later and finally got a chance the other morning.
I knew my family would not like all the ingredients listed in their recipe so I had to change it up a bit and added some of my own ingredients.
It was delicious! I have never tasted something so delicious and tender. I had mine on a bun and my children ate it on rice.
Here is what I did with the recipe:
Ingredients:
– 2lbs of stewing beef
– 1 onion finely chopped
– 1 can of diced tomatoes
– 1 can of tomato paste
– 1 tsp of garlic powder
– 1 tsp of salt
– 1 tsp of black pepper
– 4 hamburger buns
Directions
1) Place stewing beef, onion, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic powder, salt and pepper into slow cooker.
2) Cook on low for ten hours. Shred the beef with a fork.
3) Place on hamburger buns and enjoy!

As a side note, this tasted delicious the next morning mixed in with scrambled eggs on toast! Such a versatile meal – can use it on sandwiches, rice or with eggs!.
